It’s world IPv6 day (or was)!

World IPv6 launchBy now the 24 hour test of IPv6 is well under way (or well and truly over if you’re watching the repeat on Dave). You really should try and join the test flight at either http://www.test-ipv6.com/. If the site tells you that your site is not IPv6 enabled, first of all don’t worry. Today is only a test and is designed to highlight the issue and encourage ISPs and major sites to enable for IPv6 as soon as possible.

It is however worth reading their on-line help and making sure that they are addressing the issue.

Of course if you find the whole issue rather boring and uninteresting, then you should maybe think of something else for IPv6 to stand for. Answers in the comment box below.

I have no idea what that means or what it will mean. Do you think China is going to change to the 6?

Basically, the world is running out of unique internet addresses. It’s a bit like when the UK ran out of ‘phone number and had to add more zeros and ones to make more numbers.

Actually, China are way ahead of the rest of the world on this, since, they, erm, well, they kinda caused it. Without China this was always going to become a problem one day soon. Chinese internet usage has merely brought if forward. By how much, is anyone’s guess.
